Crimson Moccasins is a wonderful novel that pulls you through the book. It is different from other novels... Nothing I've ever read has been like this; its thought provoking. This book makes you want to read it after you've finished it. After reading this book, and discovering it's out of print, I was desperate to find out more about W.D. Doughty and his novels. He has an interesting and contemporary style of writing.

This is a study that was done in the 1960's in Miami about the Cuban exile community there. It is very detailed and it contains survey results on things like: when and why they decided to leave Cuba, how they first felt about Fidel Castro and the Revolution, and things of that nature. This book is very good for Cuban Americans and for anyone else who is curious about where we (the Cuban Americans that came during the first wave of the exile) come from.

This book is great for travel on I-95. It includes each exit in each state. It lists hotels, restaurants, and other points of interest. It is a very good book and I think that Fodor's should start reprinting this book with all of the new updates!!!!!!

...after searching through a half-dozen tour books of Miami, I came across this gem. Richly decriptive and a cover to cover source of solid information. A 'must have' for anyone planning a trip to Miami or outer areas. Or really for anyone wanting to know more about the Miami scene. A+++

Jeffrey Skinner's "Gender Studies" simultaneously shows affection for and asks "what is this [bad]?" of our era. After the fine volumes that precede it, including the National Poetry Series selection "The Guide to Forgetting", Skinner's poetry has even more life under its belt. This poet writes the way Collins wishes he could: sophisticated without being repugnant, earthy without being clumsy, and nostalgic but never making one think of anything but a real life. Too bad he's not in D.C. sitting in a tub of butter. The middle section, comprised of jazzy sonnets in the persona of Bill Evans, the pianist, show every register of diction, hip to intellectual, while being a musical feat. All the poems astonish by a kind of elegant, deadpan ambush, and many are hilarious, as in "Ashbery", a poem which puts the eponymous hero, kidnapped, under a blanket with a flashlight in the trunk, unstoppably writing poems. The book's best moments come when one understands the juxtaposition of several collaged scenes, as in "Jocelyn" "The School of Continuing Education" and the title poem, "Gender Studies". He's a buff poet. Never cagey. When I forget exactly how to write a poem, I turn to work like this, and to this work.

This is a journey to Maimi, and a close up look at the many communities within .. Cubans, Vietnamese refugees, and the wealthy retired Jewish people live together here as the tourists swarm in and out regularly. It's a good bit of social history to read and enjoy before visiting..

David Rieff uses much of the book on the Cuban society there, but covers it all in a most interesting guide to the city.

If you read this book, and cross ref. it with Janet Reno, Doing the Right Thing by Anderson, you will find out what, or who, made janet Reno what she is today.
The hell with politics, don't worry about what the majority says, figure out what you think, and do the right thing. Fix what you can, do what you must.
